Q: I’m a beginner, is this for me?
A: Yes! Some of our activities are open to beginners. Our clinics and recreational evenings are designed to help you progress at your own pace, with clear explanations. However, our intermediate and advanced leagues require solid fundamentals — see our Skill Level Reference Chart to know where you stand.
Q: Do you offer training programs?
A: Yes. We run thematic technical clinics (beginner, intermediate, advanced) led by certified coaches. Topics are announced in advance and cover technical skills, tactics, and game reading. Full details are available on our Clinics page.
Q: Do you have programs for kids or teens?
A: No, our current activities are for adults only (18+).
Q: When does registration take place?
A: Dates vary depending on the activity.
- Monday League: early August and late November – team registration only. See the selection process.
- Weekend League: early August and late November, with a drop-in option.
- Beach Volleyball League: early May and early July, with a drop-in option.
- Clinics: packages and drop-in registrations available year-round.
- Odyssée Tournament: mid-December – team or individual (recreational) registration.
- Pride Tournament: late June / early July.
- Holiday Tournament: late October / early November.
Q: How do substitutions work for competitive Mondays?
A: You must be invited by a team captain before registering, and a fee of $15.00 per evening applies. Affiliation with Volleyball Québec is mandatory. For full details, please see the following link: Substitution Procedure.
Q: Why do I need to be affiliated with Volleyball Québec?
A: Affiliation with Volleyball Québec is mandatory to participate in our leagues and clinics. It covers sports insurance and provides several benefits. It is also required under the Act respecting safety in sports and recreation.
Q: I want to form a team and join the evenings, how should I proceed?
A: For the Monday League, register your team using our form before the deadline (see the selection process). If you don’t have a team, you can join our chat group to find teammates: Messenger Group.
Q: When is the next tournament?
A: Dates are announced on our website and social media. We organize several themed tournaments each year.
Q: Where do you hold your activities?
A: Mainly at Collège Maisonneuve, ASCCS, and UQAM. The exact address is provided on the registration pages.
Q: How do Monday evenings work?
A: The Monday League is competitive (intermediate and advanced). Teams are set before the season. Each evening includes several matches according to the schedule, plus a season ranking leading to an end-of-season tournament. Rules are non-gendered and aligned with our inclusive mission.
Q: How do your beach volleyball evenings work?
A: Our summer evenings are open to individual registrations. They combine free play and friendly matches, in a social and inclusive atmosphere.
Q: How do you adapt activities to the LGBTQ+ community?
A: Volley Boréal is an LGBTQ+ and allied league. We ensure an inclusive environment: non-gendered rules, representation within teams, and zero tolerance for any form of discrimination.
