Substitution Policy – Competitive Monday League

1. General Rules

  • All substitute players must be registered with Volleyball Québec.
  • All substitutions, whether free or paid, must complete the online form and select the appropriate fee option.
  • Failure to comply may result in sanctions, including ineligibility to play for one or more weeks.

A team may always use:

  • players who are officiating during the evening;
  • players from other teams with more than 6 players present.

When a team’s roster is reduced to 4 players or fewer, the team must use at least one external substitute to ensure the smooth operation of the evening and maintain fairness between teams.

2. Teams with 8 Players or More

  • No substitution fee.

May use:

  • available referees;
  • players from other teams with more than 6 players present.
  • If the roster drops to 4 players or fewer, an external substitute is mandatory (must be registered with Volleyball Québec).
  • The substitute(s) must complete the online form (free) before participating.

3. Teams with 7 Players or Fewer

  • Fee: $15.00 per substitute player.

May use:

  • available referees;
  • players from other teams with more than 6 players present.
  • If the roster drops to 4 players or fewer, an external substitute is mandatory.
  • The substitute(s) must complete the online form and select the appropriate $15 fee.
  • Any omission will result in sanctions.

4. Important Reminder

  • Volleyball Québec registration is mandatory for all participants, including occasional substitutes.
  • The online form is mandatory in all cases.

5. Minimum Attendance – Consequences

  • A team that shows up with only 4 players without using a substitute may still play, but the match will be considered friendly.
  • The score will not count toward the standings.
  • The official result will be recorded as a 25–0 win for the opposing team.

If a late player prevents the team from reaching the minimum of 5 players at the start of the first match, the same rule applies:

  • Match played as a friendly;
  • Score not counted;
  • Result recorded as 25–0.

6. Late Arrival – Automatic Forfeits

  • Arriving late for the first match automatically results in a forfeit of two matches within the pool, to avoid disadvantaging any team.
  • Both matches will be recorded as forfeits for the late team.
  • The official results of both matches will be recorded as 25–0.
  • The team may still play friendly matches if the schedule and opposing teams allow it; however, the official score will remain 25–0, regardless of the actual friendly match result.
